Getting to know Iberdrola Australia

March 2025 #2

In the past fortnight, Iberdrola Australia has been meeting more locals along the coastline near our proposed offshore wind project, Aurora Green. We were at Port Albert on Wednesday 12 March and Golden Beach on Thursday 13 March as part of the 2025 Gippsland Offshore Wind Days, listening to locals and answering questions about our proposed infrastructure, environmental and visual impacts, local jobs and training, and experience with offshore wind overseas.

While we are still in the early project feasibility stage, we heard clearly that the Gippsland communities closest to Aurora Green want to see the benefits of hosting it.

Answers to some common questions we’ve heard are:

  • The closest point of Aurora Green is 25 kms offshore, between Seaspray/The Honeysuckles and Woodside Beach. From Golden Beach we are around 34 kms offshore.
  • We’ve been building and operating renewable energy projects in Australia for two decades – we used to be called Infigen Energy.
  • As happens overseas, we expect reefs to grow at the turbine bases, that can be good for fishing opportunities.
  • Iberdrola is a pioneer in developing the offshore wind industry globally.

We’ve been out and about since 2023, engaging with Gippsland’s commercial fishing industry, local government, education providers and community groups, including late last year in Seaspray, Foster, Yarram and Traralgon as part of the Gippsland Offshore Wind Days.

In partnering with Traditional Owners, we’re proud to be the first Gippsland offshore wind developer to collaboratively finalise a landmark Engagement Agreement with Gunaikurnai Land and Waters Aboriginal Corporation (GLaWAC).

Our Aurora Green local team ensures we are listening to  Gippslanders and will continue to utilise feedback as we investigate the feasibility of developing Aurora Green. To contact the Aurora Green team for more information, please email us at offshorewind@iberdrola.com.au
