Getting to know Iberdrola Australia
March 2025 #1
Iberdrola Australia has a twenty year track record of pioneering the energy transition in Australia. This local expertise, combined with Iberdrola Group’s global leadership in offshore wind, enables us to combine the best of local and global. We are a trusted long-term partner for all stakeholders in the development of offshore wind.
Gippsland has a long history in traditional energy and Iberdrola Australia is proud to be part of Gippsland’s renewable energy future. Our Aurora Green offshore wind project was awarded a feasibility licence in July last year, located 25+ kilometres offshore between Seaspray/The Honeysuckles and Woodside Beach, within the declared Gippsland Offshore Wind Area.
Our recent development activities include marine studies, community and stakeholder engagement, consultation with commercial fishers, and onboarding newly recruited Gippsland locals to our team. We also proudly completed a recent landmark Engagement Agreement with Gunaikurnai Land & Waters Aboriginal Corporation (GLaWAC).
Gippsland’s offshore wind zone combines some of the world’s best wind with shallower water depths. We expect recreational fishing will improve as reefs form around the base of the turbines, and Energy Minister Bowen has confirmed recreational fishing will continue in the offshore wind zone, with small boating exclusions around the turbines.
To make consultation easier for community members, we’ve joined other offshore wind developers for consultation sessions in areas such as Seaspray, Yarram, Golden Beach, Port Albert, Traralgon and Foster. We’ll be in Sale at the Wellington Sustainability Expo (Nakunbalook, Sale Botanic Gardens) at 10am on Saturday, 22 March, so please come along, say hello and ask us any questions you have.
